You may find the need for somewhere to store gardening tools and equipment or somewhere to shelter your plants.
A shed is probably the most useful addition to an allotment, but the decision as to whether these can be built will lie with the landlord. Please check your tenancy agreement and have a conversation with your landlord.
If you have been granted permission, here are a few reasons why to have a shed on your allotment:
- Perfect for storing all the essentials
- A place of sanctuary on cold wet days; a warm dry, snug place for a cup of tea.
- Why not keep a table and chairs, barbecue, charcoal, etc;
- helps keep your plot tidy;
- Could be used for a potting shed;
- Can serve as a propagator, hot house, etc;
- Can be used to harden off plants prior to planting them out;
- A refuge for creatures. There will always be spiders, woodlice and so on lurking in corners or dark nooks and crannies: butterflies may hibernate inside.
- Can be used to support climbing plants such as vines or melons or flowers such as clematis and honeysuckle.
