Earning Cycle Storage Credits
HQM awards 3–6 credits for cycle storage, depending on dwelling size and number of spaces:

3 credits:
Studios/1 bed: 1 space per 2 dwellings
2–3 beds: 1 space per dwelling
4+ beds: 2 spaces per dwelling

6 credits:
Studios/1 bed: 1 space per dwelling
2–3 beds: 2 spaces per dwelling
4+ beds: 4 spaces per dwelling

Secured By Design (SBD) is a UK police initiative that recognises developments designed to reduce crime. The SBD Homes 2025 Award is given to residential projects that meet security standards developed with specialist police advisers called Designing Out Crime Officers.

These officers work with architects, developers, and planners from design through to completion, ensuring developments are safer and more secure.

Award Application Process
The SBD award is assessed across three sections:
Section 1: Development Layout and Design
Section 2: Physical Security of the Home
Section 3: Additional Features

SBD Award Levels
Gold: Meets full requirements in Sections 1, 2a, and 3.

Silver: Two routes:
Meets Section 2a requirements only.
Or meets Sections 1, 2b, and 3 requirements.

Bronze: Meets Section 2b requirements.

Building for a Healthy Life (BHL) is England’s leading design framework for creating well-designed homes and neighbourhoods. Endorsed by the government and widely used by home builders and local authorities, it helps ensure new developments are attractive, functional, and well-integrated into their surroundings.

BHL supports goals to:

Red: requires major reconsideration

To earn Built for Life™ accreditation, a development must achieve at least 9 green ratings. Achieving all 12 qualifies for the ‘Outstanding’ quality mark.

Question 12 of BHL specifically asks:

“Is there adequate external storage space for bins and recycling as well as vehicles and cycles?”
